Redstone Racing is celebrating a trouble free qualifying session after the debut appearance of the all new Mountune-powered Ford Focus NGTC at Snetterton ahead of tomorrow’s return of MSA Dunlop British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).
The Motorbase squad dropped the biggest surprise of the season so far by unveiling the latest addition to the brace of ‘Little Red Devils’ at the Norfolk track this morning to an unsuspecting crowd and pit lane.
The new machine is the latest NGTC specification car based on the recently launched all new Ford ST and its maiden performance exceeded expectations in spite of a complete lack of testing ahead of this weekend. Focus now turns to Sunday’s racing as Redstone Racing look for solid results to help get their Championship challenge back on track.
Team Principal David Bartrum said:
“First and foremost reliability was the key for us as a team this weekend and in that regard, today has been faultless.
“Aron had a good start to the session and was unlucky in his first run – being interrupted on a fast lap by the red flag. If that hadn’t have happened he was on for a solid top ten result, but he did well to pull it back to P11 on his final lap.
“I’m delighted with the new performance of the new car. It performed faultlessly and didn’t miss a beat – which, considering it was only finished at 3am this morning and saw daylight for the first time when it arrived here at 6am, is pretty damn good going!
“I can’t praise the guys enough for what they’ve put in over the past seven weeks, and it’s real testament to their talent and hard work that we’ve now got a car ready to go straight to work and develop. I’m very much looking forward to tomorrow.”
Round 6 of the BTCC featuring races 16, 17 and 18 take place at Snetterton on Sunday 12th August. Live coverage of Sunday’s events will be shown on ITV4, itv.com and also in HD from 11.00am – 6pm.
